My 38T

#1 Post by Steeb »

Hey i just finished painting my 38t. I got it off of kevin aka airsmith.
It was begging for a new paint job so i here she be.
One minor problem im having is the left grip is a bit loose. Does anyone have a tip or trick on how to keep the grip more secure?
thanx steeb

Nice job...looks sharp. How did you prep and paint the gun?

I used some make your eyes water, burn your nasal cavity chemical paint stripper with a toothbrush and rubber gloves and took off the original paint. Then gave it a rinse under some warm wather and scrubbed some more. Then used some goo gone paint pal stuff i think its called to degrease it. Hung the barrel, frame and side plate on a wire. And then degreased it again. I didnt prime the metal, i just used some krylon interior/exterior semi flat black paint. This is my first 38t and the first time ive tried to paint crosman metal. So im not sure how long it will last. Hopefully it wont chip on me. :?

Have you ever encountered the loose grip on a 38 b4 airgunfun?
The pistol shoots fine, but the loose grip irks me!

I have refinished a couple of my model 44's , and after the paint dryed , ( for 24 hours ) i sprayed them with varathrene from home depot , fast drying , satin finish , before assembling, i let the varathrene dry for 24 hours , this seems to prevent the paint from chipping. good luck Joe

Gee, this is weird...I just got home from a friends place and I brought back a 38T...and I was going to ask if anyone could give me some info on this gun. I want to paint it also , if I take it apart ,will I have any surprises...like springs and small ball bearings being launched all over my work shop????it's happened to me before. How are these guns...good???
Thanks
Bob

i need some dip for my chips.
After fiddling with my loose grip, i noticed some paint chippage. So i stripped it all down again today. I used some primer now for a first coat. And am going to use Joe's advice and try some varathane as a finishing coat. Thanks for all the replies. Now i need to find some replacement screws for the right grip. LOL i was making some wood grips today and somehow after cleaning up all the wood dust. i think my shopvac sucked it up. "slaps forehead".
And the adventure continues......
