This is the place to talk about everything airgun related including air rifles, air pistols, pellet guns, pcp airguns and more.

Before you commit to a paintball HPA setup. :?
I was ready to pull the trigger on a paintball HPA system, when I added up all the cost with bulk setup to my QB/22XX, fittings, remote, tank, caps, accessories.
The cost was almost the price of a low price PCP. So I said the heck with it and bought a real PCP, a CZ200T/S200 which shoot sweeter than any of my 22XX or QB could ever shoot. :D :D :D Besides, I can alway get a few more 12g Powerlets to feed my 22XX/QB and I gain a nice new rifle. 8)

Ain't that the truth ..... I know ..... I built 7 of 2240 to 2250 and some w/24" .22 and .177, all the way with Cooper-T and tons of spare parts, total up the amount, I could've gotten 2+ HW100 ...., the fun part of building 22XX is priceless .......
Good thing the QB is alot less than 22xx to build.

Hello Canada - Brit here.

The problem with CO2 is that it is liquid and needs higher ambient temps for the liquid to convert to gas. This causes problems if you are rapid firing as the system cools down rapidly so the liquid to gas conversion slows down considerably and power can drop (as well as plummet).

Air will also suffer in extreme temps, but has a big plus on co2 if its cold.

Also, in hotter temps, you will probably get more shots out of a CO2 then air as the liquid will expand more.

It seems you have the S200 in the big country.

This is a first rate gun - very cheap and build quality is hardly outstanding but amazingly accurate for the money. Shot capacity is a bit low especially if your in a competition but good basic kit.

CO2 is used more for fun guns (and paintball of course) with the greater majority of weapons being air either PCP or springers. Have a few gas rams principally made by Theoben.

What is the dominant type of equipment in Canada and do you have competitions. If so, would be pleased to hear what you do ?

Thanks

Steyr (Simon)
You will only ever shoot one shot in your life - and thats the one up the barrel now....All that have gone before you can do nothing about. It's a here and now deal

ok,

i was about to ask that question in a week or so (about HPA).

so to sum it up, to make a HPA 22xx i need to do the following

have a 2240/50/60 *check*
get a cooper t setup for the gun (the standard one for the co2, right?)
and get an HPA bottle from a paintball store or web
get a pump (the reason why i want HPA is so i dont have to drive anywhere for filling)

thats it? will i need any fittings, valves, new hoses? blah blah blah... what if i want one of those long coiled hoses so i can put the tank in a bag or hang on the belt? is it called a remote and is sold in any good paintball store?

by the way, the reason for going through all of this pain and money for bulking 22xx or QB guns rather than buying a PCP is that repair/part cost and availability for 22xx & QB is good + you can make them 500+fps

Hi Razpizdiay,

You got pretty well everything on the list .....
For the tank, you can pick it up fast at badlands paintball.

I'll probably start with the steel tank 48 - 3000 which more than good enough size (27 oz) and it's only $129.99, if works well then go to the fiber tank, alot lighter but double the price.

i wish i haden't come in so late on this descusion. but i have been busy working with my new logun pump.
i have been using hpa for a while .i find that it is much nicer then co2 ,and cheep , any one looking to get in to this ... i suggest you approch your local fire department .they usually have old air tanks sitting around . $30 will get it retested . the one i have only goes to 2000psi . which i think is enough .( why did i buy a pump? lol)
co2 compared to air . 780 f/s off co2 .980f/s off air at 2000 psi this is for one of my guns.
i only get about 30 shots off either air or co2 .thats at 2000psi ,i know at 3000 psi i will get more. 5 probably
i don't think air will give any more kick ,i'd say less . on a long barrel the co2 will expand alot when gassing where the air just mantains pressure and drops. air is not as good as co2 for low pressure . 800psi co2 is stronger then 800psi air, this sounds stupid but seems to hold true for me .

so your saying to get more from hpa you need the gun's internals to run at higher pressures?

Perhaps that is true since CO2 equalized with the air temperature and pressure increases, unless the temperature is really cold.

id say co2 is better for the psi it is ,it has a high expansion. but you can't get hi psi .
i just did some tests on 1 of my guns . i had it shootin at 980f/s off 1800 psi . the spring was set perfect . for 1800psi . i ran the pressure up to 2800psi and i was getting 540 f/s to 620 f/s . (hammaer spring is not enough) this lasted for about 15 shots . then it climbed . 800.850'' '' up to 1050 f/s . this is the problem with getting hpa your perfect working gun will have a huge range . from 500 to 1000 f/s . un less you want to try the spring over and over till it right .
after i put a heavy spring in it ,it will shoot about 1250f/s and then drop . and probably stop at 700f/s . 40 shots .

JezX, thanks for bringing that up, that is very important point in modding when dealing with pressure, we want to get the max. I will start with the stock spring and work around the pressure and so on.

thx.

jez-x, could you run a remote to your gun, carry a 4000 psi tank, and regulate it down to 2000 psi to the gun. that way you could just mess with your spring settings, and get it to shoot how you want it to... would something like that work? think i could build a gun based on those principles? hmmm.... i donno.... oh well...

4000 psi is a big change for a gun running off co2 . i'd make sure you add a extra bolt or pin to the valve . i have never ran any gun on 4000psi . but if you could get a regulater and and run it at 2500psi ,that would be ideal . or just put a pressure gauge and fill it to 2500psi.
the problem with some of my guns is i have to take it apart to adjust the hamer spring . usually i put a long piece of 3/4'' alluminum in the air chamber so that it will only hold 5 shots . then i shoot it and see if the spring needs more or less ,that way i don't waste air and have to drain it off if my hammer is to week .
realy id say if you can build a gun with 4000psi capibility ,do it . 9mm would be nice or at least .25 cal . you should be able to get a .25 up to 1300f/s

I think that would be the best idea when using the remote bottle. It's almost the same principle as my 3.5" pneumatic nail gun, runs of my 40 gal. 5HP compressor tank at 135 psi with shut off valve in line and gauge set at 90 psi, and the gun has spring tension adjuster to set how deep you want the nail to go in.

so i was just testing some springs . on 2000 psi ,i was getting 980 f/s. when i put 2800psi in it it would not shoot that high till it got down to 2000 . so i put a spring in with 2 coils extra . i think i got it perfect .
first shot was 1198f/s then a few higher then droped after 7 shots to about 1070f/s and this droped consistanly from 5 to 15 f/s each shot .
i also have to say i'm liking my logun pump alot . i never go above 200bar but i'm sure it will .it is quick and works very smooth . i highly recomend this to all . just make sure you have the right conectors . or you will have to do alot of searching for fittings .
the pump is great if you want hpa ,don't both with air tanks just get a pump.
