Rats!

#1 Post by mhborstad »

The four legged kind. Not that I'm admitting that they exist, or are, say running rampant throughout the outbuildings, but if they _were_ and trapping the b%$tards wasn't satisfying enough, what would be the group's recommendation for more *direct* intervention?

Seriously, I'd like a relatively inexpensive rifle/carbine that would have the oomph and accuracy to deal with 18" tip-to-tail rodents. Noise is not too much of a concern, but something subtle would score extra points. I've got access to a full machine shop, so mods are perfectly ok (maybe even desired - I'm pretty much guaranteed to take it apart anyways, so I might as well fix something while I'm in there).

From reading here, the contenders seem to be the Cr 2289, Quest, B4-2 ,QB-78 etc. I like the idea of having a more solid machine, and the cock-closed bolt of the QB appeals. What else am I missing?

Non-pal (or flirting with) preffered (fps rather than energy limit is the most absurd standard I've seen...)

I'm serious about the rats. I expect that we'll play around in the basement a bit and all, but I fully expect to be shooting rat-shaped cardboard targets...

Where in Canada can you find QB's? I've seen Sunny's post about the show (I'm in BC). The others are available at the local CT, or through DL etc..?

I live in GVA too. U are looking for QB? I saw Leverarms in Vancouver has QB for sale last time. http://www.leverarms.com/
You can choose to buy from them or sunnyxisico. The price u paid in the end should be around the same. Leverarms = a bit more expenisve and 14% tax, sunny = a bit cheaper but expect $20 for shipping. Not sure if Sunny wanna add 7% tax to the GB, probabily not. For sure QB is a good gun to shoot, but I wonder if shooting rat with airgun a good idea. :? When u shoot rat in the basement, watch out the pellet doesn't bounce back to ur eyes. Seriously, you may get hurt.

Thanks perrypan, LeverArms has one in-store? That would be a bonus I suppose, even with the tax.

The rats are outside (thankfully) with a safe backstop (earth bank. dense bushes). The basement shooting I joked about would be suitably backed, cardboard targets.

ID Sudget a crosman 2240 with a 2289 barrel and a decent scope on it for sniping the rats with and use Super point RWS pellets that should do the job for you..

forgot to mention you will also need the 1399 stock as well makes it into a mini carbine and steadys the aim for the 2240 when you add or even dont add the 2289 barrel any how also the 459 MTC scope mounts as well for mounting the scope....

Having owned both the 2240 and the 2289 I can tell you that if you are intending to shoot outdoors the 2240 shoot with all the vigour of damp f@rt at cooler temperatures whereas the 2289 can be modded to hit like a sledgehammer and comes with the aforementioned stock as part of the purchase price.

Those Rats are to blame for my big spending in airguns. It started along time ago when I was six when my grandfather thought me how to shoot a big rat with a Diana. Since then on it never end ...... there is always something on the next list .....

I'm really impressed with the knockdown power of my .22 cal Xisico B4-2.

Really inexpensive (cheaper than a 2240), has more punch out of the box and it doesn't need CO2 so it isn't affected by temperature.

I picked mine up for $74 and added a $12 scope and a $5 truck bedliner paintjob.

It punches through both sides of a big coffee can at 30 metres.
