updates on paintball .22

#1 Post by killercrow »

well guys... just a few things to fill ya'll in on. the gun still looks the same, fugly as ever  but, i got myself a new set of scope rings... i think theyre made by gamo. little bit of a higher profile, and used em to mount a redfield 4x scope... its old, but real nice... so the gun looks at least a little bit better. i modded the trigger as well, so its not so bad anymore, dont gotta worry about throwing so many shots now, and all i had to do was file down the hammer release in a couple spots. on top of all that, i ordered my remote line last night  cant wait for that! once i get it all set up, i'll mod the valve for more displacement, and mess with the springs... currently i get a max velocity of 630 fps, with a 15 grain pellet... my ultimate goal is at least 800 fps... but we'll see when the time comes... i still gotta make the thing LOOK good... now thats a challenge

any ideas from you'ze guys would be great!

A 15-grain pellet at 630 fps is generating muzzle energies in powder-burner territory. Impressive.

What caliber is it?

As for making it look good, go to a craft store and get some blocks of shapeable foam. Carve out a cavity in two boards so you can sandwich the gun between them then go wild sculpting and shaping any way you want (maybe a Nighstalker clone?).

Once you've got the finished look, separate the halves and buy some fiberglass sheets and resin mix at Canadian Tire and follow the directions. Once cured, just sand and paint then you're done.

the gun has a .22 rimfire barrel... not sure the make... although i think it was a savage... i would like to find a .25 calibre barrel... but at 25" one might be hard to find. (an NO, i will not hack my 25-06  )
thanx for the idea though!! thats wicked! sculpting a stock will no doubt be a lot easier than carving one out of wood... but then, if i ever find a peice of brass thats the right size, i'll be getting rid of the whole plastic paintball frame, and put all the valve and hammer assembly into that. it'll look more realistic then. more durable and rigid as well. the whole point of that existing aluminum box i built is solely to keep the barrel pointed straight... otherwise it just blows in the wind  but i think i'll try that... fiberglass!!

thanx.

OH MY GOD !!!
i just realised what u made !!!
i told my friend, just today, about this idea that i had, to make a paintball gun with a 1/4" (,25cal) barrel and shoot those ball bearings at 500+++ velocities !!!

since you made it first, i am kind of pissed... by the way, i found that many questions / topics that i want to ask/start/talk about on this forum get asked a couple of hours before me. and as we all know, "great minds think alike". makes me feel good.

what sort of a paintball gun did you use? the co2 $30-60 one from ct? i wanted to use a ~$100 dollar one and make a clip (NOT a hopper, an actual spring powered clip) for 1/4 bearings.

good job, looking forward for your updates.

har har har    well, actually i made it a few weeks ago 8) if you really wanted to know... what i used is a brass eagle talon... from cambodian tire... think i paid 30$ for it... but as for your idea, i have thought of it, using the semi auto... but too much work for me. theres one at ct for like 70$. not bad since its already set up for a bigger co2 tank... its adjustable too i guess. the gun i used was rated for 250 fps with paintballs, but the better ones are rated up to 300 fps... plus i'll guarantee you theres room for improvement, power wise... any questions just ask me. dont be shy

im thinking that the spring in there right now is heavy enough... could be wrong.... but im thinking of adding weight to the hammer... then maybe i'll try a heavier spring... and maybe a lighter valve spring too.... it actually wouldnt be too difficult to build a bigger valve casing... i just need a lathe  !!! see, if i had a lathe, id never have to work a day in my life... but i guess theres more than just a lathe i would need.
jez-x, you built a pellet paintball gun? how did it turn out? got any pics? id like to see it. marlin .22 barrels have threads? all the barrels ive seen just have cross pins, even the .22 mag barrel i have....
marmot, i searched the ol' shed for forgotten items and found some long strand autobody fiberglass from ct, and some fiberglass mesh tape stuff... think that would work? does the fiberglass filler need the resin hardener?
tomorrow i'll be picking up some foam to play with... see what i can come up with.

later.

I don't know the specifics of it, but I just had the idea from watching some guys I know make custom bodykits for their cars. They can shape the foam really easily using just their hands then just overlay it with fiberglass.
