What ammo are you using in your Drozd?
What ammo are you using in your Drozd?
On single shot, slow fire (10 sec between shots):
Copperhead BB's 5-6" spread at 13 yrds.
Gamo Lead Ball Rounds (8.2gr) 3-4" spread at 13 yrds.
With both, they just fall thru the bore without engaging the rifling.
Perhaps, I should move up to lead shot in BB size (.180")???? Heck of alot cheaper than Gamos!!!!

Do it Airgunfun, get some lead shot in BB size and give us some results.airgunfun wrote:On single shot, slow fire (10 sec between shots):

The shots might be harder than the Gamo lead balls and have less deformation in the magazine. Like you said, they are cheap.

The Gamo lead balls are fairly hard. I squished a few in the vice and they offer some resistance. The Gamos fly through the Drozd like litter thru a goose....they work very well and they don't deform at all. But, for the price and the limited gain in accuracy...they're not worth it.
As for the lead BB shot, have to find the shot with high antimony for improved hardness or there will be problems with jamming, etc. I believe this is referred to as magnum shot. Lead B shot seems to be very limited.

Yeah...I"ve been searching for the Marksman BB's at local Walmarts and it seems that they've all switched to Copperheads. I'll keep trying though. What's the diameter of Marksman BB's? Like I mentioned before, both the Copperhead BB's and the Gamo Lead Rounds just fall thru the bore with absolutely no resistance whatsoever...this can't be good for accuracy!!!! I checked the Drozd and the rifling is crisp and sharp...so it looks factory spec. Subsequently, I tried the Gamos in my IZH-46m and they're very tight fitting. I may have to move up to .180 lead BB shot with a high antimony to prevent jamming.
Lead balls will sometimes cause jamming as you know, higher the cycle rate the higher jamming issue. I heard that the Russians use a standard rifled pellet gun barrel to reduce production costs. I used a .177 15" barrel and it seems that the rifling does help the accuracy but length is the main contributor here for sure. If a tighter seal was accomplished than everything would be improved as well. The 15" barrel allows me to hit cans up to 20 meters with little effort but the biggest issue now is the inconsistant velocity using non-bulk setups such as HPA. In hotter climates this is not that much of an issue. But I did see a video of bulk CO2 and bulk HPA and the penetration and benefits of bulk were very obvious. So to recap this Marksman are the favorites of most shooters for the Drozd.
