Slow leak out of my Disco's fill nipple on the adapter!

#1 Post by Canadianguy »

Recently I have had a slow leak that seems to just be coming from the nipple. After pumping up and gun settles it might loose a 100 psi or so. Then it stops....then it's fine days later, now i have air in the ballon again not a lot, maybe 100 a day if anything. Every thing else gauge and other parts of the fill adapter have no bubbles. I'll degass then take the nipple off and clean the little o ring and anything else holding open.

Why would it leak for a day then stop, then start again days later? I would think it would be constantly leaking.

I took a few shots with the ballon on the fill nipple still and there was air in it after the shot, it was empty before hand.

Is that a sign to?

Dirty or wet check valve. If it is an o-ring seal, might be a good idea to replace it. Sometimes dirt is actually metal filings- especially on new components.

Possible lack of lubrication upon the oring. Tiny amount of silicone greace or oil rubed betwen your finger tips and oring. Or possibly time for a new oring may have micro cracks within. Just a couple suggestions

I took the foster nipple off and is looks new and clean except in this pic at the bottom where it seats not smooth it has lines if you look close.

I think that might be the culprit!

Any suggestions how to smooth that out?

If you have a dremel with attachment for stick on sanding discs you could use that but try to keep perfectly square. Or glue sand paper on a dowel or rod that is square on the end and chuck in drill press and you can lower it down perfectly square to sand smooth.

I've read also people are using the yellow gas teflon tape or the 56521 Permatex sealent.

Either or is good for the foster fitting on the fill assembly nipple?

Thanks

Yellow is meant for gas.

I use the white, and it holds air n/p. 3 or 4 wraps with the leading edge to the right, and the trailing edge to the left, so it slips under the threads....

Tried the pink N.G. tape, and it's kind of thick for a fitting that small.
