Guys

Can someone decipher this info?

I have advised to NOT USE HPA in this tank, if this info is correct,
then I need to get a HPA tank and reg for my QB 79,
for winter time use etc.

Here is the info that is stamped into this tank, I have no clue what it means etc,
if you can understand what the below info means, can you inform me, what it means,
it would be greatly appreciated. I am new to this stuff and AR's etc.

Top line = DOT - 3 (triangle?) L- 1800- P846120 . . M4625
Bottom line = TC - 3 ALM - 12 (triangle?) - 11 C 16 - 09 OZ CO2

The spelling in these marks ( ?) is my best guess, as these stamping are very hard to read,
and filled with paint etc.

I have advised to NOT USE HPA in this tank

Guys

:ANAL:

Does this sound OK, for a normal OTB untuned QB-79, 22 cal running on 88 grm cyl, Co2?

I shot 2-10 shot strings today, getting used to the trigger etc,
which needs adjusting/tuning, not used to a 2 stage trigger. LOL

14.3 gr pellets Temp 85*
Shot over my Magnet V-3 chrono

H= 585 fps
L= 576
A= 579
SD =2.6

Shot over my Oehler 32 chrono
H= 585 fps
l = 568
A= 577
SD = 2.6

Group size was the end of a coke can, with iron sights, at 35 yds,
with approx 20mph quartering wind.

Holy snackbar!, the wind sure does drift these pellets,
used to 17 cal PB at 3800 fps+. :twisted:

I have about a 1/4 of can of pellets, approx 150+ shots,
on the 88 grm cylinder, seems to be with in my expectations,
and this cyl still has gas.

I don't know about the accuracy, as the iron sights are blurry etc,
I have to get my scope mounted, waiting for some more rings to get here.
more info to come.

Don

That's great for an untuned gun, as I said earlier mine was only shooting 495 out of the box.

The 1800 is the max service pressure, meaning you shouldn't go over that pressure. You can check with Bob Sterne, I'm sure he'll confirm these tanks are fine to use high pressure air to 1800psi, especially since the burst disk is at 3000psi. If you aren't using a hand pump though, you should be careful about not filling it past the 1800psi. It's obviously safe to 3000psi once or twice or they wouldn't use a 3000psi burst disk but that is not for everyday use.

Something to be said for outside the bottles design.
In this case the bottle is designed for Co2 use. A cryogenic fluid @ 20C~850 psi and approx -25C fluid temp. This is how the cylinders design is calculated for fatigue values. Your burst disc is calculated for its fatigue failure at the bottles prescribed pressure rating.
Exceeding will create xtra fatigue and a premature failure of the disc.
I myself only use bottles designed for their specific use Co2 or HPA/ N2, as well as burst discs designed for that use, there is a difference.
Pressure vessels are only as safe as they are used for their intended purposes. JMHo

As much as I disagree with 1800psi fatiguing a 3000psi burst disc, I think Whitewolf has wise advice in just enjoying the co2 tank for what it's designed for, and buying a hpa tank with a regulator for hpa. Once you get it tuned you can set up an rva with marks on it for co2 and hpa, to get consistent velocity.

Guys
Thank you

WW
That 3k burst disc on a 1800 lb rated co2 tank is very confusing to me,
and has me nervous now, etc.
It would seem to me, (what little bit I know), that the burst disc should be 1.7K?
I think, I should sell this tank and get a 3000 psi rated tank & reg, for my use etc.

I would like to use HPA & reg set to 1200 - 1400 psi, for winter time use,
but I don't have enough knowledge to figure what or how to do the math out,
to get a reasonable 700 to 800fps with the correct pellet weights,
with a shot string in the area of 20- 50 shots,
before I have to hand pump it up, for winter hunting use,
I have 55+ 88/90 grm co2 cylinders for summer use.

www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?topic=49943.0 this is such a great thread by Bob Sterne. I haven't seen anyone else that can record a project in such a well laid out and exciting way. As he mentions in the thread, you don't need to go the same way he did with the valve. You can just take the filter out and cut some notches in it for air flow. That's what I did and I got 914 fps with 15.89 grain jsb.

Thank you for that info, (I now have saved that info),
I had read part of that post, but could not remember where I read it,
I have been checking several sites for QB mods and info.

Who are the QB Guru's here, besides TBBCEM = the Big Blue Cookie Eating Monster,
or other members that know and understand HPA in QB AR's?

Guys

Bob,
On my Co2 tank I have, 1800 psi max,
would either one of these regulators work safely
using a hand pump fill to 1500 psi max.

I am looking for a small tank for hunting/pesting etc,
and hoping I could use my tank, until I can get a good Ninja tank/reg,
with 10-30 shot string, before refilling etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pure Energy Paintball HPA Air Tank Regulator 3000 PSI
3000 psi input
800 psi output
Nickel plated brass bonnet
Constant flow technology
1.8K and 5K burst discs
Input threads: 5/8”-18UNF
Output threads: G1/2”-14
European Conformity "CE"

Pure Energy Paintball HPA Air Tank Regulator 4500 PSI
4500 psi input
800 psi output
1.8K and 7.5K burst discs
Aluminum Alloy
Input threads: 5/8”-18UNF
Output threads: G1/2”-14
European Conformity "CE"

I was told that these regulators can be adjusted via the washers etc,
since I know nothing about regulators, I thought I would ask, before buying,
as they are $20 for each.

Maybe private messaging Bob might be a good idea, I'm sure he'll have some good insight. The threads are the same on the co2 as the hpa, so either one of those regulators should work equally well. Bob or others here can give pointers on adjusting the output I'm sure, though where it is set from the factory might work great, especially when you only have 1500psi to work with. You'd be smart to take the higher burst disc out of either of those regulators and replace them with 1.8k discs. That'll keep you safe and as long as you keep it at 1500psi max you'll be all good. You can buy those burst discs cheap on eBay or at a paintball store. Theirs lots of downsides, like lack of shots and a lot of weight for what you get, but the one benefit is it'll be a nice easy pump up with your hand pump at those lower pressures!
If you keep the regulated pressure at that 850psi, it'll make it a lot easier to tune the gun to be able to easily switch from. Co2 and hpa and back again without having to change your power settings very much if at all, though you'll still have to re- sight your gun each time you switch, I'm sure.

I found a Canadian source for those 10 ci bottles you guys in the states have available for $30. Here it's 59 plus $20 shipping, and then a regulator is still needed. Trying to decide if I want to go for looks, and get a hpa tube for $100 plus shipping, or go for function, and get the 10ci tank with a regulator, for basically the same price. I sure like the looks of the tube a lot better, but I'd like to have a good accurate gopher gun with quite a few shots. Not sure if the tube will give me that. Your QB is 79 is ideal for the tank, cause your tube is shorter. If I don't cut my tube it'll be more front heavy, but if I do cut it then I have to buy a drop block, which Jack's the price total way up. Lol! decisions!

Don, I tried my gun tonight with the new lighter hammer and the delrin valve stem. Got a string of 73 shots between 780fps and 866 fps with 14.3 grain pellets! That was with my two 90g tanks filled to 1500psi, which are only equal to 6.2 ounces, so less than your 9 Oz Co2 tank. Looks like you could actually get a pretty long shot count with that setup after all! The highest I could get fps at 800psi was 760fps, so if you could adjust your regulator to 1000psi, you'd be able get into the 800s easily and should be able to get a pile of shots, probably 90 or so anyway! My tube is longer than yours, but you should still have at least an extra ounce more air than I've got I think!
