Metal breach

#1 Post by DoctorFrankengun »

I started making a metal breach today form my 1377 project gun. If I get time to work on it tomorrow I may be able to finish it.

The barrel slides 1-3/8" into the breach and will be held with two set screws on each side. The top will be planed down to the piont where there will just be enough meat left for dove tail scope mounts. I will grind down an old 3/4" endmill into a ball mill so that I can contour the bottom of the breach for a nice fit on the pump tube.

Here is my progress this far...............

Metal, looking real fine there!
If you want to do the groove another way I can find the formula later to angle the mill head with a cutter of a given size to cut a groove of a desired radius. Works awesome with endmills or flycutters.
Keep up the good work.

Metal muncher, here is the formula I use. I cannot remember who sent it to me but I sure appreciate it.

SIN(Angle)=CutterDiameter/DesiredDiameter

so for example: Desired is 3/4" for your 1377, Endmill is 1/2" then tip the mill head 41.8 degrees so 49 degrees make your cut.

Take care,

looks good .are you going to radious cut the top or keep it flat . ? . i like the flat look . all my dove tails are cut with a dove tail cutter .45* . seems to work fine ,and a cutter only cost $15.

real nice, try using aluminum or steel round rods - than the breech will be more efficient in terms of weight/size ratio

Canshooter - With the time involved to build it I couldn't even come close to the Crosman kit price :(

Voltar 1 - Thanks for the info. I will keep it for future reference. (for a time when I get a real milling machine  )

JezX - I like the flat - square look myself 8)

Razpizdiay - I got some material today that can be used for a round breach but it will be some time before I can give it a try.

I didn't quite finish it today but I was able to mount it for a test fit :D

Are you planning to use the original bolt?
If yes, how is it inserted into this block?

No, I have made a new bolt. I will post photos with details tomorrow if I get the chance.
