H&N Excite line of pellets

#1 Post by YepYep »

Anyone use this line before?!

I just bought one tin of the Spike super-pointed .22 as an add-on to get the free shipping from Amazon, and surprisingly found this pellet is so great in quality, accuracy and a very very good price ($8.99, 200 counts). Anyway, at least it looks better than the Crosman in value~

I am going to buy the other 2 products in the same line, Hammer (domed) 14.66 grains ($8.99, 250 counts) and Prometheus pointed lead-free 9 grains ($20.99, 200 counts) in my next shopping with Amazon and try them out!

I've shot the 177 Excite Hammers on various CO2 pistols and spring piston guns and they do pretty good; generating tight groups at around 20 feet. Considering the inexpensive price tag, I've kept a good stock of these pellets. I finally decided to try the Excite Econ 2 which should be coming in from Ottawa next week. I've heard some good reviews on the accuracy of this wadcutter. I ordered them and the Excite Plinking Pellet; which is also a wadcutter. Looks like a busy week coming up as I'll be testing the new pellets on lots of guns.

I will have to keep an eye out. The best price I can find on these on Amazon right now is $14 /tin of 200.

I just checked the 177 cal stock and they have them in 500 ct. for $13.13 @ Amazon. none of my 22cal airguns like the Hammers, but I have about 4 guns that adore the Hammer in 177.

I shoot the .177 Excite ECON II in several of my CO2 pistols (CP88, Crosman Vigilante, Airbug) and they work well at the 6 yard range of my online competitions.
They are a light weight, wadcutter pellet at 7.4 grains.
The H&N website suggests a maximum distance of 10 meters and a minimum of 2.5 FPE at the muzzle.
I saw a great price on these last year and bought a bunch of them when I was ordering a bunch of other H&N pellets from Cibles / Olympic Marksman Ebay store.
The Excite Econ II are currently listed as $6.00 for 500

$6.00 a tin for 500 is a sweet deal, considering the prices these days. Thanks for the info. I may have to keep Ebay on the radar in the future. My Vigilante use to stack the Hammers at 6 yards, but recently I opened a new batch purchased from Amazon and the groups at 6yards have opened up. I have the actual EconII and Excite Plinking Pellets coming in from O-Shoot next week. I look forward to testing these economical Econs & Plinking pellets on my CO2 pellet pistols/revolvers. Yes, indeed the Hammers from experience are pretty effective up to 10 yards. I tried them at 15 yards and the results were not favorable. Have you tried the H&N Excite Plinking Pellets(Wadcutter) before? If so, how do they compare against the Econs?

I tried H&N Excite Spike 5.50/200S pellets from my two FX Streamlines and AA S510 Extra, today. The were shot at 950 fps to a target at 50 yards. Accuracy was horrible.

They couldn't be counted on to stay in 8-1/2 x 11" target, and some would not stay on 4 foot x 4 foot backing. Obviously not a choice for that type of shooting, as expected, but I had read reports of good accuracy.

Target impacts were interesting, with some punched outlines of sideways pellets.

Perhaps they might be better at lower velocity, so will try them from my PP750.

Accuracy was worse than that of Crosman Premier HP 14.3 gr pellets recovered from my indoor backstop.

Only the Crosman with very deformed skirts performed very badly so I plan to sort some into more uniform groups to try to gauge the effects of distortion.

I have not tried the Excite Plinking variety.

Have you tested the Excite Econ II accuracy past 10m?

Curious not so much for my 88 but maybe the Daisy 953 as a cheap plinker.

The H&N Spike on the H&N Website state that the pellet is good to about a max distance of 30m. The Econs are good to about 10m. It works well on several of my CO2 guns at a 7 yd distance.

Do they have a maximum velocity recommendation?

I might set a 25 meter target, just for fun, but I only shoot at 50 yards for sighting and group testing when it's windy. It would be interesting if they group well at 25-30 meters, and go completely nuts by 50 yards. I noticed effects like that with some H&N from my Kral or maybe HW100 but it's over a year so can't recall. They would group decently at 25 yards, then one pellet model wouldn't stay on a 4 foot square target at 50 yards, and then next be completely wild by 60 meters or 75 yards. I can't imagine the physics of those effects. Corkscrewing at a radius of more than 4 feet seems to defy physics, From where would come the wing and tail area to achieve such maneuvers? Still, that's what the do.

They don't have a max muzzle velocity, but the minimum muzzle energy should be around 12 ft/lbs for the 22 cal H&N Spike.

I recall Ted Bier of Ted's Holdover getting & nasty weird spiraling from a .22 cal. HW100 some years back. It happened at quite a high vel, but I don't remember what that was.
My Condor is pushing Hades out at 1,034fps with no spiraling and really good accuracy to 120yards, the furthest I'd shot it.
Best Wishes
Daryl
