Beeman P3 vs P17?!
Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
Try pressing it harder forward after you hit the open wall. I have to give both mine force at end of pump to let air in. You will hear a hiss letting the air in then close it up. Both mine did that. Then they loosen up with time. Air only goes in the very end 1/4 inch after the wall. Got over 500 shots on both mine now and still have the wall but not as pronounced now. CHEERS!

Any picture of the intake hole ? Where and how's it look like ?TCooper wrote:When you replace the piston seal, also check the intake hole for a little burr on the inside. Mine had a burr that kept taking a small chunk off the seal. Easy fix.

Yep, in the following some cocking, while I open the lever out and I did hear some hiss sound, but while pulling the trigger, still very small amount of air was shot out.wheeliehd wrote:Try pressing it harder forward after you hit the open wall. I tried one pellet, and it only went through one layer of the cartoon box, and stuck in the other wall of the box...

Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
Oh, should I need to wait a while when open up the lever, or say I need to even give the lever some force to keep it open wide for a while (one second ? Two seconds ?!) To let the gun have enough time to suck the air in ?
Maybe it's not a lemon just I don't know how to use this gun? (But the manual didn't mention this waiting time....)

Loading a pellet is more than enough time.

Great idea... Can you elaborate on the sizes please. They are metric right!TCooper wrote:You might want to get yourself a couple of piston seals and breach seals. The numbers are 117 and 009.

Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
The air intake hole is a small hole near the end of the compression cylinder. It's on the bottom of the cylinder, approx. 1/2" from the end. You can see it if you open the upper frame to the halfway point during the stroke.YepYep wrote:Any picture of the intake hole ? Not Metric. They are standard sizes. Click on the "Standard O-Rings" tab at this link to see the measurements associated with each o-ring ID number.HuskyDude wrote:Great idea... Thanks for the picture~ very clearly showed everything I need to know!
I have a chance to visit Lowes today, and I will try to see if I can find the o rings to stock up some first ~ [emoji16]

Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
I bought two whole seal kits off Ebay.ca for the P17's. Not sure how much they were and do not really care as I wanted them just in case some day. CHEERS!
EDIT: Went and checked and appears I paid $28. for 2 sets.

Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
Looks the ebay seals kit is more easy to get as I just found that it's hard to looks for some special o rings from the local store... Lowes only have the faucet rings and not able to look for it by the standard 117/009 model numbers... and Princess Auto is just selling kits for hundreds different rings in a box...
Maybe I should try Part Source ?!
Although the eBay deal would be much expensive, but it can give you some peace of mind right ?

Try your local hydraulics shops for the seals.
Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
I used to own an HW 40, eventually sold it to get something much more expensive. I had put 13 500 rounds through it without ever experiencing loss of air pressure. Ever since I got rid of this gun I have missed it. Three years ago I replaced it with a P17.
So far I shot fewer than 2000 rounds with the P17. During this time I had it completely apart half a dozen times because of pressure loss. I checked for rough spots causing seal damage, although the seals looked undamaged. I always did a thorough cleaning job, a complete seal replacement and light lubrication. Within fewer than 300 shots the pistol leaks again.
When the P17 works it is fun to shoot. But I am getting tired of constantly trying to repair it.
Am I the only P17 owner who does not manage to seal the pistol properly?

Re: Beeman P3 vs P17?!
If you are loosing pressure there are a few seals that need to be checked. The 009 breach seal doesn't hold constant pressure but a poor fit will still cause a velocity loss. The 117 piston seal is a common problem. I'm not sure how it would leak unless damaged or worn thin from use. The end of the valve stem uses a 006 o-ring. This seal could leak if gummed up with grease or debris. The valve body uses a 008 o-ring and should be fine unless disturbed. Current parts diagrams don't seem to show this 008 valve body seal so possibly it has been eliminated on newer examples.OzzieM wrote:I used to own an HW 40, eventually sold it to get something much more expensive. Try to use 70 durometer nitrile or 75D Viton seals. You could try shimming the piston seal with a layer of dental floss in the groove. A damaged piston seal will often show a very small nick on the edge.
