I just got back from Williston and Burlington, and over there I had the chance of seeing some real nice air rifles, not to mention real rifles which weren't even locked or behind a counter and was available to anyone in plainsight at Wal-Mart, you could basically pick up the package and the cashier would scan the item and you could go home with it... Whew! God bless the US of A!!!
In any case, all of the rifles I saw for sale, ranging from cheap $50 ones to the most expensive $250-$300 ones were all rated over 500 FPS...
I did find some handguns that were <500 but since I didn't read any reviews, I wasn't sure if was to pick them up. One that caught my eye was a Daisy 689 (hope I got the modle right) for $49,99, a whole kit. The gun looks really nice.
In any case, what I really wanted was a rifle, but at 1000 FPS, I wouldn't have been able to go through the border with it. Although, I technically could have not declared it and would have been fine, but that might involve some time in jail if caught.
What I need to know is what exactly do I need in order to bring in a rifle with a velocity of 1000 FPS across the border? I have heard of PAL, is that all I need? I just show the PAL license at the border and I'd be fine?
Thanks,
TB
Argh! 1000 FPS rifles!!!

...........LOL.............. in parts .....hehehe ......
The problem is not just PAL, registration is another big issue since what ever gun have to be registered before even bringing it into Canada .... I would guess .....
Hi TB,
We have a good selection of non-PAL airguns in Canada. Many PAL rated air rifles are also available in detuned non-PAL versions. If you have a PAL you can choose the version that best for your needs.
Some Canucks shoot mainly in basements and enjoy the detuned models. The 500fps models can be a lot of fun from 10 to 30 yards, and sometimes further.

Indeed, seems like too much of a hassle... I'll stick with handguns rated at <500 FPS. Thanks!

Yeah, better selection, cheaper prices and cheaper taxes. Once you've been to the US for over 48 hrs, you can bring in I believe $500 worth of purchases tax free.Jan wrote:Well if you have a PAL then why not just buy a 1000+ fps rifle here in Canada? Hi Time-Bandit,
Selection - Our selection in Canada is getting better. So far we have dealers for Weihrauch, Webley, Diana, Crosman, Daisy, Baikal, Hatsan. Umarex, Gamo, Slavia, BSA, Xisico, "Winchester", Drulov, TAU/BRNO, AirForce, Steyr, Morini, FWB, Anchutz, Walther, Hammerli, Twinmaster, Aeron, and some Beeman tagged stuff. We don't have all models from every manufacturer but the selection is pretty decent. I may have even missed a few names on my list.
Tax - If you purchase through mail-order you only pay the GST if you order from out of province. Some dealers don't even add taxes to the advertised price (tax included).
Price - Our prices on some products are not too bad. Weihrauch products are reasonable. JSB pellets are reasonable. Some other stuff is not too bad either.
You should also consider dealer support and return policies. If you buy from the USA and get a lemon you might not have an easy(or cheap) time exchanging.
