The HW40 is just addictive...

#1 Post by YepYep »

I think I shot too much these days already and feel sore arms already... But every time I passed through the table and see the gun lays besides the target box, I can't stop grabbing it up and make some shots....

I think I need to hide the gun away from the target and the pellets.... Image

You have a good addiction there as you get a thorough hand, eye work-out. Plus the arm and finger. Lol!

Shooting splatter targets all day with my P17's would run me into the poor house. I normally shoot 5 or 6 times a day. I like my "Grizzly knock down ducks" from PA with one inch splatter dots on them. Works well.

I order another P17 yesterday and also a Crosman 2300T barrel with a plan to install the 10" on the P17. The hope is for 450-475 fps and good accuracy. An adjustable piston will also be installed.

Will you polish the barrel to make it shinny silver look? I found the P22 project with a sliver barrel looks better than the black one~ :D

I plan to keep it blued from the P17 muzzle brake to the end of the new extended barrel. Also plan to cold blue the rest after Rick reduces the size to fit. Bluing should help with rust resistance. Hmmm... another option would be to polish it all shiny and then clear coat the metal for rust control. Maybe.

Wow, that kind of muzzle velocity out of a HW40/P17 is an ambitious goal. I respect your knowledge of airguns and look forward to learn how this project turns out.

Happy New Year!

I'm basing my guess of a few articles that turned up on the internet. One guy installed a 10" and was getting 451fps with 7.0gr pellets. Another guy tried barrels up to 14" with gains. He stated 25 fps gain per inch. The OEM barrel is 6.7" and gives me mid-390s with 8.44gr JSB Exact and over 400fps with the light 7 grain ammo.
