Places to plinking and practices around Vancouver, BC ?

#1 Post by papaburger »

I cannot shoot at my backyard because it is too close to my neighbour's houses. Too many pets and cats passing by. Is it legal to shoot in parks and along the coasts ? I always fear someone calling the police when he/she saw me holding an airgun.

Is there a place around Vancouver, BC where I can shoot OUTDOOR legally. (Even if it is legal, someone might still call the police.)

In Richmond you could try the far end of Triangle Road out past the landfill
site. It's sort of an un-official rcreation area where peopl go to ride dirt bikes and stuff.

I went to the place today. Nobody cares about my shooting there. I heard real gun shots but cannot locate the sources !!! Finally I have place to plink. It was raining and I am using my IZH 53M pistol. I don't know the effect of rain water on air rifle. Rusting perhaps.

Thanks for the info.

Hey glad you found it!

Fraser river port authority does a sweep through there every once in a while but as long as you are not doing anything really stupid they are usually pretty cool.

Play safe

I go to the follow triangle road

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=triangle+ ... oc=A&hl=en

People do motor biking there.

I know some people do plinking on logging trails near squamish (near alice lake). Winter is too cold for this.

So this location on Triangle Rd. is alright to shoot in the day? I might take a trip to look at it this week. Nice to be able to shoot outdoors.

Other more knowledgable members of this forum has mentioned that I need to check the bylaw of the town. Indeed, it is not legal to shoot at Triangle Road. Sorry about old posting about Triangle Road.

There is a Richmond Rod and guns club located at the sport town on No. 5 Road. They meet very Mon, Wed Fri night (7pm to 9pm). You can legally shoot there with your airguns.

Someone has mentioned that if you plink on crown lands, you better have a hunting license because the authority will not distinguish between your plinking and your hunting. Also it is illegal to hunt with pistols. So I guess bringing pistols to crown lands is not recommended.

There are many knowledgable members here who knows about the regulations. I am still learning from them.

So we can't shoot outdoors without a hunting licence. Do I need a PAL to get a hunting licence? I've been to the Richmond No. 5 Rd range before and I think iits rather small for the guns we are using. I wish there were better locations for us people around the Vancouver area to shoot. I just want to shoot some cans

If all your going to do is shoot cans or targets no hunting licience is needed. Unfortunatley your going to have to get a little farther out of town to legally shoot a pel outside. Lots of people do it at the local gravel pits or down in burns bog etc, but technically doing this is not legal. Even though pels under 500 are not classed as firearms unless used to commit a crime you will have too find an area where it is legal to discharge a firearm. Areas of delta and Richmond can be legaly hunted for certain gamebirds in season. Problem here is it is illegal to discharge lead anywhere near dikes or dikeland, only steel shot may be used. That means no plinking with a lead pellet. Have to take a little longer trip over to the dewdney trunk area. Every year I head over that way prior to hunting season to recheck my rfles for accuracy. For me from Guildford it is about a 1/2 hour drive to where your back in the tooleys. A 4x4 is not needed unless you really want to go booney bashing. A nice loop but a little further out is the Inch Creek Fish Hatchery outsid of Deroche over the mountains to Chehalis lake. Closer would be North of the Ruskin dam on Stave Lake. Basically anywhere behind Maple Ridge. Check the B.C. Hunting regs. Look for the black bear hunting and Blacktail deer open areas. You may be suprised how close it is to be able to legally shoot.

Enough people to have a hell of a good plink party. And you know something? We could do it all year round and not have to worry about being snowed in like those easterners.
