I hate seeing great work go down the tubes. At least you have the time to do it again :?

Damn ..... sorry to hear about that.
That happened to me too sometime, I'd get so frustrated and just drop everything, get some rest and start over .......

i just wanted to sujust that the barrel set skrews be put in the top. then it will tighten the barrel to the exaust better.
also ? why not mill the slot ant 1/4'' it would look nice with a 1/4'' handle .
or take a ball end mill and shell it out . that would look nice .
it's still use able id just clean it up

Fixable. Just chamfer the outer edges on the handle slot and loading port. You need to do that anyways to not cut youself.
With the probe in place, you won't see the scuff on the inside.

I may try to fix it but it will have to wait until I get in the right frame of mind #-o

jezX, I bought a ream so there is a very close fit where the barrel goes into the breach, but I will put the set screws in the top on the next one.

Just curious as to what kind of metal you use for making those breaches? I'm a pretty handy guy so I could probably make one myself. And exaclty what tools are you using to make it. I'm more of a carpenter than a machinist.

This (my first) is aluminium. It might be possible to build one with woodworking tools but it would take a lot of thought and quite a few custom built jigs. I used a metal lathe, shaper, milling machine and drill press.

Thanks for the info. But Wouldn't aluminum be a little soft? In my opinion brass would be a little better. But your breech looks great anyway. If you don't mind and could fill me in on little more of how to produce a metal breech it would be greatly apreciated.

What I really need to know is how exactly you cut the grooves. Using a lathe and drill press is no problem.

Also before I forget what are the dimensions of your metal breech. Width and height. thanks.
