M2K4: RELOADED

#1 Post by Plink-Panther »

Hello Folks ~

Another magnificent autumn day in SW Ontario!
Went plinking in the woods for the 3rd time in 4 days.
I've essentially fallen in love with my M2K4 all over again.
I pretty much keep my targets (plastic golfballs) in the 12 meter range but I still have good fun. 18 meters sometimes ~
I sit on a log and shoot with a two handed grip - but my last shots were one handed and still pinged them off 90% of the time.
I'm not sure but has anyone noticed the freakish accuracy of the M2K4 reddotted? ;-) It makes average shooters better marksmen, me thinks.

Escape to the woods, preferably with a plinkin' buddy and enjoy your autumn folks. Sorry if you're tired of hearing about it. I'll seal my lips about that pistol for awhile - its just so fun & easy to shoot. Cheers!

hold over, hold under

At the various range you use your marksman 2004, do you have to hold over or hold under to hit the golf ball ?

Plink,
I couldn't agree with you more. I've had a hard time putting my 2004 down ever since I got the Hawke RD30 mounted on it. I've put almost a whole tin of Exacts through it in the last week. Before I put the dot on it, I considered it to be fairly accurate for the price. But the dot changed all of that for me, it is kind of spooky how accurate it can be.

If my comment "has anyone noticed the freakish accuracy"
and yours "it is kind of spooky how accurate it can be."
don't generate even More interest in this pistol "reddotted", then I don't know what would...

Cheers!

BTW - I had not fired mine for perhaps 2 months and when I brought her out a few days ago - oddly a pin I crazy-glued previously had got loose again. But glued it again and all is well.
Too bad it doesn't mod like so many Crosmans do - so we could give her another 50-80 fps, huh?

I guess putting on a longer barrel (add two inches) is one way to get a few more fps - but I'll wait for somebody else to do it first! I'll watch & learn...

Yes it would be nice to get a bit more juice out of it, but I am strangely satisfied with the 385fps it does with Exacts, most likely since I don't usually shoot it past 15-20yds. Honestly, I think that if the pressure in the internals were pushed to far, it would likely cause problems in the cocking pivots, and maybe the internals aswell. The trigger, balance, accuracy, and ease of use are enough qualities for a pistol like this,IMHO.

Good plinkin' to ya'

I have the original German HW40 and it's also a lot of fun to shoot with a red dot. I always thought dot sights were not much better than irons and then I got one about 4 years ago. My offhand shooting accuracy has become more consistant. The Campbell's soup cans at 20 yards are simple. With larger 22oz pasta sauce cans I can reach to 30 yards and sometimes 40 yards. Holdover isn't too extreme if the pistol is sighted for centre hits at 20 yards.

After 6.5 years I still enjoy the HW40. It's cheap to shoot, accurate, compact, reasonable power for my needs, optics friendly, good trigger, dependable, nice looking, etc...

Hello Todd,

I would like to get an HW40 someday soon, but, I was thinking of trying it in .22cal since I already have the copy in .177. Have you any experience with the bigger cal in these guns?

what can I do about 2nd stage creepy let-off?

Oh how I miss my "previous" triggers on the M2K4's I've owned...

I tried adjusting the trigger using the hex screw in the trigger but although it adjusted the 1st stage length - it didn't help with the mystery let-off.

Help?

All I did was turn the adjustment screw counter-clockwise until the first stage got long and soft(almost floppy), then I turned it back in until there was normal resistance in the first stage. Another thing you can do is to take off the grip pannel and look at what the adjustment screw does while you adjust it, just be carefull of the little it's and bit's. If you do this, you might as well lube it to. The trigger on my 2004 has very little, if any second stage creep. HTH,

Hi Mulby,

My web site has some velocity data on the .177 HW40 and .20 HW40. The .177 seems to peak at around 2.7FPE and the .20 seems to almost hit 3.0FPE. Many shooters agree that the fatter calibers seem to give slightly more energy from the same power source. We can get a guesstimate on a .22 HW40 energy output. I'll guess at around 3.2FPE. This would push an 11.9gr Hobby at close to 350fps. Heavier pellets would obviously go slower.

My web site has a trigger parts pic that might help Plink-Panther. There is only one adjustment screw so tinker until it feels good. My first stage is long and the second is very crisp and light.

HTH,
Todd
