pellet resizing...

#1 Post by killercrow »

anyone ever try resizing pellets? i saw on some site that beeman makes a pellet resizing die, but theres really no info on it. anyone know how it works? see, all i'd like to do is enlarge the head of my pellets, since they dont sit in my barrel uniformly... barrel is too big.
i did do up a few, i took some crosman wc's and used a small brass dowel and a little hammer, set the pellet on its head and tapped on it. it worked, took a little trial and error to get the right amount of taps
if any you guys have an idea, i will likely try it!

Make pellets bigger???
You may want to save yourself the trouble and get some oversized JSBs pellets. 8) Once you used the JSB pellets, you may never want to mess with Crosman pellets again.

Hi there,
I could be wrong about this, but I think the Beeman tool is only for making the pellets smaller. The only other advice I can give is to either keep doing what you are doing with the copperheads, or try a different pellet. I know the Gamo Match(wadcutter)has a tighter fit in my barrels than the copperheads, but IMO the copperheads are only good for two guns I own; Benjamin 397 and Crosman 1377. None of my .22 guns shoot the 5.5mm copperheads worth a poop, and the last ones I bought accutally fell out of the barrel half of the time. JSB, H&N, RWS, and Gamo are the pellets that I've had the best results with in my experience, JSB Exact(dome)and Schak(match)are the only pellets I feel I need to restock with. The Exacts are made in 4.50-4.53mm, and the Schaks are made in 4.49-4.50mm, so propper fit can be achieved. HTH,

I had an older style sizer in .22 and a friend had the Beeman labeled sizer in .177 caliber. Sizers will reduce the skirt diameter on pellets and make them uniform/consistent. Quality pellets seem to shoot fine out of the tin.

If a pellet has poor fit and poor accuracy then it's time to search for a better pellet for that airgun.

I haven’t seen it, but I would guess that it would resize the pellet skirt Not the head...btw Crosmans suck, they are too small. Milbro pellets are cheaper but fit a lot better. but I'm sure if they make .22s...

Hi Mulby,

The JSB Shak is not their Match Grade pellet. The JSB Shak is actually their budget priced, lower quality control, wadcutter pellet... but they still shoot great. The Shak may have "some detail finish mistakes". Shak is sometimes referred to as their "practice pellet". The JSB Match Diabolo is the higher quality, hand sorted Match Grade pellet.

I noticed that JSB now has a light weight Exact(dome) called the Express. I sure hope Scott Illingworth decides to import this version too. The .177 will be 7.87gr and the .22 caliber will be 14.35 grains.

I first discovered JSB pellets 5 years ago, in 2000. A friend had a tin he got for free from Ray McDougall. Once my friend saw they were Czech made he gave them to me. At first I had the same preconceived thoughts but decided to give them a try. The low retail price was not what I would expect for such high quality and accuracy. What... not a German pellet! The JSB turned out to be a top performer in my TAU-7 and TAU-200. It also shot very well from my friend's Steyr LP-10. After I tried the Exacts, I was hooked.

Hey mulby I had the same problem with crosman coppeheads falling out my .22 break barrel. They seem to only be good in .177.

......lol........ If I got more time on my hand I would use it to do some shooting instead of resizing 500 pellets in a tin .....
I haven't use Cr. pellets for over a year and a half since the last I found they were too loose, just stick with JSB, RWS, H&N .....etc.

Hi guys,

I guess I shouldn't have reffered to the Schaks as a match pellet, but they sure seem like Match grade, at least they shoot like them. I have not found a peewee or damaged skirt/head in my use, and I've gone through alot of tins, OK sleeves! The Schaks, Match, and Exact JSB's are IMO the best for the money and then some.
I am actually meating Harvy this evening, I'll make sure to inquire about the new Express Exacts. I'm hoping they get the Exact Heavies in soon, I'm excited to see what they will do in my high power guns. I think it will be great to have the wide range in weights, sizes, and calibers of the Exacts.
I'll post back later if Harvy can tell me anything about the new pellets. :P

Why don't you get those jacketed bullets and give them a go.
Some of the talk is they are the cats meow for airguns.
Sounds ounds like you got a winner there.

Hi Mulby,

Soooo.... did Harvey have any news on the JSB Exact Express??? :D

The .177 Express might be dandy in the HW40 and M2004. The .22 Express might be great for the HW45, Cr2240, and all the 495fps .22 airguns.

Thanks,
Todd
