I got the Civic

#1 Post by perch »

I noticed someone broke down and got a HW30S. Well I gotta tell you why I got the Quest.

I have a pretty small collection. Started off with a Crosman 1077 which was supposed to be a birthday present for my oldest son  . Then a Crosman 2100 (which I finally gave to my bro-in-law).

Then I got 631. Nice gun. But it's funny how I wasn't satisfied. I tried different springs-too harsh and really not a whole lot more power.

Ended up with the stock spring ( and 2 washers), polished the piston, shrink tuned the guide, tarred and lubed it. I adjusted the screwed in end of the receiver until the screw holes line up better. Interestingly, this improved the action of the leaf spring on the trigger.

I know the D24 and HW30S are good rifles, but from what I read I didn't think they would be a whole lot better than my CZ631.

So why the Quest? It was the challenge of turning a piece of coal into a diamond. I loved tinkering with the 631 and my 2240, turning it into a squirrel-eater.

I put about 50 pellets through the Quest. Difference between it and my 631 are like night and day. The Quest looks, holds, sounds and recoils like a firearm. The 631 quietly and reservedly sends pieces of lead @ 550 fps to the POI.

What a combination - I love it!!!!!

I love to tinker as well. Anything I buy must come apart at some point for me to see what it's all about. I really like my 630, but it's alittle large for everyone else in my family. I seriously looked at the Quest. For the money I don't think you can find a better deal.
I normally am an underdog kinda guy. When all my friends were building big block cars, I was a small block guy. This time I just wanted a sweet toy right out of the box. Never had one. And compared to cars, this hobby can be affordable. I mean it just cost me a little over $1000 for tires on my summer toy. $7 for 500 pellets is downright fun.

You will not be disapointed with the HW30s at all. I had one and sold it years ago and have always regretted it. I did buy a Webley Patriot in .22 doing 920 fps but even though it is a more powerful high end gun I miss the lighter weight and simple design of the ageless HW30s.

I can say it will be one of those guns you will hand down to your kids due to build quality. The HW30s can be shot by most which not the case with my scoped 10lb Patriot that many can't cock never mind hold!! Magnum springers are not anywhere as friendly or enjoyable to plink with, as opposed to the HW30s rifle, especially when you are trying to introduce young adults to supervised airgunning.

HW30S

I own all three plus many more rifles.
I would agree so far as taking the quest over the 631.
No way can you compare the HW30 to the quest or cz631.
It's like driving a ford or a BMW. No way you can compair them.
The HW30 is in a league all it's own.

Just my opinion. Wolf.

I guess at the end it's all base on individual preference and opinion aside from the truth and budget what one can afford.

CIVIC is nice and it's JAPANESE.
QUEST is good, it's made CHINA......NOT JAPAN.
BMW, PORSCHE, HW, DIANA ....... GERMAN.........excellent..... perhaps we shouldn't compare them.....it'll be a loooonnnng debate .....lol...

Yeah, I could care less where it's made. As long as it's a good product and value for the dollar, I'm a happy guy. I don't need to own something because it's German or Chinese. My rifles are for me, not to impress anybody. If you can afford the "BEST", in your opinion, go for it.

I have all four rifles, Quest, Slavia 631, Diana 24 and the HW30s. All tuned. The shooting characteristic differences between the Quest to the Slavia 631 is about the same as the difference between the Slavia 631 to the HW30s. The Diana is half way between the Slavia 631 and the HW30s. This is for tuned rifles. The Diana doesn't benefits much from a tune, because it is already very smooth out of the box; maybe a bit too lay back and lack the snap of the Slavia 631 and HW30s. :)
This is not saying the Quest is bad, far from it. It is just that it is hanging with a top crowd. The Quest is a darn decent springer and an excellent value.

Using a shrink tuned HW30s is an amazing experience. I prefer its shooting cycle over the my tuned HW97K and HW95. It just feels smoother and quicker, maybe it is the smaller and lighter spring and piston combination in HW30s.
