Early Christmas Present

#1 Post by Daryl »

Christmas came early for me.
I also decided to put the new Emmersive 10x50 on it.
I found it strange that the finish was so dull and feels like there is very little finish on it. Might have to do something about that.

This kind of new and dull stock is the easiest to work on~ just fine sanding and any oil on it and you will get an awesome piece easily~

I worked this way on my Pro Sport~

It's a nice present! Congrats and Enjoy.
The wood looks quite nice, and like Yep Yep says a bit more oil could be added if you really don't like it, I personally think it has a nice finish, but a bit of oil may seal better and preserve it for the long run. Mind you that stock will out live us all Daryl. :drinkers:

Daryl this stock is too nice to not be oiled, I personally wouldn't leave it like that  .
If everything's so lovely yeah, then why don't I, why don't I, why don't I, why don't I feel lovely?

Have you done any shooting with it, Daryl? I have shot my new TX200 Mk3 a few times now. I have a Hawke AirMax 4-16 on it and early signs are very good. I have been knocking down my 1.5" targets out to 55 yards. Now I am going to sit down with seven different pellets and do groups at about 45 yards to see which pellet it prefers. It is -8 degrees C. here today, so I will be shooting from my sunroom floor out to a 45 yard target with multiple bulls for testing the separate pellets. May not get a verdict today, but a shooting day is always good.

I've only shot it indoors at 10M. Of course, it stacks them at that range. -20 yesterday but seems to be warming up some. I'll have to see if it warms up enough for me to
drive out to the range.
The Immersive scope has a VERY wide field of view, Bob & that is nice. The glass is superb, with VERY short eye relief. I had it first on the HW97 in .22 which of course doesn't
kick much, but the vibration/movement was mildly disconcerting when using the collapsible eye cup. I removed the cup and with the scope's 1/2" or so of actual eye relief, the vibration problem was solved.
I put the scope on the FX just to try it out there. I like or rather prefer to shoot with my head and neck erect, rather than scrunching down hard on the cheek piece, which is more an American style of shooting. The European style, with more drop in the stock, head and neck erect is normal for many of the 19th and 18th Century guns. This is my preference and
the extra high mounting of this scope lends itself well to that style of holding/aiming. A person's "equilibrium"(balance) is negetively effected when the head is canted & eyes(ears) are on
an angle. The older I get, the more I "feel" this effect. So far, so good.
I've been playing with the port opening adjustment a bit. The rifle barks pretty good on the maximum and medium settings but is quite quiet on the low setting. Some of the port adjustment
settings are marked in calibres. This one isn't.
I AM going to add some oil to the stock - at some point.
My mistake - it's a 10x40mm, prismatic scope with the Christmas tree reticle.
It also comes with 3 different bases.

Does this type of scope have a conventional exit pupil.... ie if you hold it at arms length, you see a bright circle 40 / 10 = 4mm across?.... I would guess they get the wide FoV by using such a short eye relief.... and totally different lenses of course....

I dunno about those "Christmas Tree" reticles....

Yes to your question. As well, I can see almost all of the reticle in that little circle as well. It appears larger than 4mm.

That makes sense, to have that wide a FoV, the image must be a wider angle than the exit pupil.... They probably match in size close to the eye relief distance, like a regular scope, but that is much closer to the eyepiece, giving a wide FoV.... Pretty tricky!....

I am curious how the brightness of the image appears, compared to a conventional scope set for a 4mm Exit Pupil (eg. a 40mm set to 10X).... I know that will be subjective, but if/when you have a chance to check in poor light (dawn or dusk) I would appreciate it.... 8)

Can't answer that yet, Bob. I've just started re-finishing the stock, so the barreled action is in the lockup. Shooting here in the basement seems
bright. I no longer have 4' florescent tube lights though, so not nearly as bright as it used to be.
I guess I'll find out after the stock is done.
