How do you tell if your gun is losing velocity?

ok back on subject a bit how much time are you taking between shots in springers they heat up alot and you need to take some time between shots other wise it wont matter how broken in the gun is you will nevre stay constante in fps, on a normal shooting time you should geta few fps differences but if its getting dramatic then your not taking time andthen gun is not cooling off so the seals are not compressiong properly for max pressure.... i can see bigg differencec over say a year of your shooting evry day the spring is going to wear out eventually and fps will drop, but a new gun will not change that dramatic unless your only taking a few secends between take more time say for giggles 1 min between shots then see if things stay more stable.. also find the right pellet that works best in the gun, every gun even the same model usually over 99% of the time will use a different pellet.. i have over 46 differnt kinds of pellets i use all the time and there are still more types styles and so out there eventually ill have them all i still have guns that i have not found the right pellet for,,for best accuracy and penatration the gun needs the pellet thats right for it... and break barrels are very picky they all really but break barrels i find are aboutthe most picky in this area and the most sensitive to keeping a constant velocity as well......
a whole minute!? thats forever! it would take me like a month to finish off a tin of 250.airsmith282 wrote:ok back on subject a bit how much time are you taking between shots in springers they heat up alot and you need to take some time between shots other wise it wont matter how broken in the gun is you will nevre stay constante in fps, on a normal shooting time you should geta few fps differences but if its getting dramatic then your not taking time andthen gun is not cooling off so the seals are not compressiong properly for max pressure.... i can see bigg differencec over say a year of your shooting evry day the spring is going to wear out eventually and fps will drop, but a new gun will not change that dramatic unless your only taking a few secends between take more time say for giggles 1 min between shots then see if things stay more stable.. also find the right pellet that works best in the gun, every gun even the same model usually over 99% of the time will use a different pellet.. i have over 46 differnt kinds of pellets i use all the time and there are still more types styles and so out there eventually ill have them all i still have guns that i have not found the right pellet for,,for best accuracy and penatration the gun needs the pellet thats right for it... and break barrels are very picky they all really but break barrels i find are aboutthe most picky in this area and the most sensitive to keeping a constant velocity as well......

They might. You could always go check and see if they have one. They should check your fps for free to. If they don't want to check it for free than find someone else. Don't waste your money on a less than 10 minute job. You can also get used chronos. Are you gonna turn you 500x in the 1000x?

would i need an fac to do that?RM422 wrote:They might. You could always go check and see if they have one. They should check your fps for free to. no just order the 1000x piston from crosman canada and your good to go.
Technically you need an fac for any airgun over 500fps and it's kind of illegal if you don't but hey if your doing it this way I just see it as bending the law. 3 of my airguns are over 500fps and I don't have an fac for any of them. I even went and bought one that was about 630fps from a gun show without at permit. Hey as long as you keep the the common sense of don't hear nothing, don't see nothing, don't say nothing then your fine.
Anyway back to the mod the only difference between the 500x and 1000x is the piston. The 1000x has a shorter piston allowing for more air space so therefore getting an increase in velocity. Also if you do that you can clean your spring up and superlube lube it or moly lube it.

sweet! were would i get the piston? and if the piston was shorter then wouldnt you need a new stock? or is it just the inside that looks diffrent?RM422 wrote:no just order the 1000x piston from crosman canada and your good to go.

and where would i order the piston?

Order the piston from Crosman Canada, Make sure you stress that you want a 1000x piston. Because they quite often screw up orders. The piston doesn't cost very much. Something like 8 bucks. No the 500x and 1000x have the exact same parts except the piston. You will not have to change anything on your 500x to put the 1000x piston in.
