Over lubed my Hammer, and used grease on the orings

I was changing Orings in my Bigmax X a few days ago and I lubed the hammer bore with 2 dips of a Q-tip in Moly grease 65%. The hammer is a very tight fit in the bore with both services very smooth. After assembly there a was 25 fps drop in velocity. 50% of the hammer fits into the bore where there is no escape for the air in between the hammer and the valve other than between the 2 surfaces. I believe that this air was not able to escape as normal and was giving me a 25 fps drop in velocity due to the grease. Today I did another tear down to wipe the hammer and the bore. This gave me back my 25 fps. I then turned the hammer spring stop in 1-1/2 turns and gained an additional 10 fps.

On orings that are in a static location, I have been using S lube on them in the past when installing. I feel that I have not been getting the life expectancy out of the Orings with the lube. This is my first time using S grease on them instead. Only time will tell if the Orings lose their flexibility prematurely.

Assuming the grease on the hammer bore, made a seal and slowed the hammer enough to reduce it's blow on the valve.
Something for the rest of us to be aware of. Thanks for noting this.
I've been using Super Lube Sycolon PTFE Dialectic grease for a number of years now on O rings, without any troubles with leakage.

Grease is viscous, and will reduce striker energy...the level of reduction will vary with temperature. For this reason, I prefer dry lubes on strikers...spray graphite or graphite powder rubbed in works well.

Any sort of silicone grease is fine for pcp orings...I use brake parts grease or dielectric grease, but there are a lot of options these days.
