3D Prints of my Bob's Boattails

#1 Post by rsterne »

As most of you are aware, over many years I have been developing my “Bob’s Boattails” Airgun Slugs. As a project for my new 3D Printer, I decided to make myself a display of the six basic designs. They are from 1.5 to 4.0 calibres long, and scalable to any calibre. Moulds for several of these are available from NOE Bullet Moulds, and I thank Al Nelson for making that opportunity available, to increase the slug designs available to airgunners. I would also like to thank Miles Morris for the suggestions he offered which led to these specific shapes.

The tallest model shown is just over 8” high. I used the .257 calibre drawings as the basis, and the resolution of the prints is each 0.2mm thick layer equals 0.001” of length. They are just over 2” in diameter. They will be displayed in a place of pride in my Living Room, and I thought I should share them with you.

Hi Bob.

Nice work on the design of those airgun slugs and that was a good idea to use the 3D printer to make enlarged versions of them as a showcase piece.

Nice trophies! What filament did you use? the shiny silver colour suggests a silver silk PLA, and looks perfect for these. :drinkers:

I got a Creality Ender-5 S1.... nice unit with the cube frame, and not a bed-slinger.... The PLA for the bullet models was Anycubic Silk Silver.... I was really pleased with how everything turned out!....

A great printer (I have the previous version) and great results and if you ever desire more speed you can always upgrade the control to a sonic pad and run klipper. Thanks for sharing.
I have some airguns.
