Cylinder hone question

#1 Post by webstien »

For those of you who have used a hone on airguns before I have a few questions:

1- What is better for honing an airgun - flex hone or brake cylinder hone?

2- What is the size to buy?

3- What is the grit to use?

4- Do you start from the back of the cylinder to the front or front to back?

5- What oil did you use to lubricate the hone?

:P

Hows this one:

This is how I just did my Slavia. Except I used WD40 as a lubricant. This what I use honing engine blocks and wheel cylinders. I find it lubricates well and is easier to clean than oil IMHO.

I use varsol which is very much like WD40 for these purposes. WD40 is a good idea Pellet Head.
I worked for a time in a motorcycle/small engine repair shop. We used varsol in a drip cna above the cylinder and then proceed to hone as required. Oil will serve to clog the stones and reduce honing action.
So honing for synthetic seals?
My Quest is dead smooth in the chamber. Possible candidate for honing.
